Construction Forum to Address Critical Issues Facing the Industry in 2011

DECEMBER 2010

As published in The Mississippi Contractor (Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc.)

Health care reform, pending regulations, revenue recognition, mid-term election implications-these are just a few of the issues that have the construction industry wondering what 2011 holds for their businesses.

This year's HORNE Construction Forum will address these and other critical issues when it convenes on Dec. 16 in Hattiesburg, Miss., at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.   HORNE specializes in construction accounting and is one of the nation's top 50 accounting and business advisory firms.

"With the uncertainty of health care reform and the anticipation of the effects of the recent elections, the prospects for the economy and the construction industry in 2011 give us a lot to address," said HORNE Partner and Firmwide Director of Construction Joel Bobo.   "Overall, we want contractors in Mississippi and throughout the Southeast to understand what new accounting issues will affect them in 2011 and how to be prepared for them."

Forum topics will include a tax legislation outlook for 2011, an overview of health care reform's impact on the construction industry and construction small business owners, and a revenue recognition update.  The half-day seminar will be lead by HORNE's team of construction accountants, including immediate past national president of the Construction Industry CPAs/Consultants Association and HORNE Partner Joel Bobo.  Leading national economist Anirban Basu, chairman & chief executive officer of Sage Policy Group Inc., will be a featured speaker.

"We recognize that the construction industry is up against some challenges and uncertainty in the coming year," Bobo said.  "It's timely that we provide the resources that contractors need to navigate this challenging environment."

The 2010 HORNE Construction Forum is a free event and begins at 9 a.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.  The program concludes at noon with a complimentary lunch to follow the educational sessions.  The registration deadline is Dec. 8.  To register, visit www.horne-llp.com or contact Leslie Petro at 601.326.1223. Complimentary CPE credits are available to applicable attendees.
